A Pain in the Neck: Whiplash After a Washington, D.C., Car Crash

Imagine you are riding down 495 one day after work, just trying to make it home. This interstate becomes a parking lot most days at rush hour, and when you begin to move, there’s s a lot of stopping and starting. Just as you begin to gain speed, you are forced to come to a grinding halt again. You barely stop in time before hitting the vehicle in front of you, but the car behind you isn’t so lucky. You are rear-ended, and have just become the victim of a Washington, D.C., car crash.

Over the next few days your neck becomes so painful you can barely move it. Could you have whiplash? Here are the symptoms:

  • Neck pain and stiffness. It’s probably no surprise that one of the most common symptoms of this injury is pain and stiffness in the neck. The pain may come only when you move your neck or the discomfort could be constant. Additionally, moving your neck may be a struggle because of stiffness.
  • Pain elsewhere. Whiplash causes pain in other areas besides the neck. Those who suffer from the condition often experience discomfort in their lower backs, shoulders, between the shoulder blades and even their hands and arms. They may also find their hands and fingers going numb.
  • Behavioral changes. Along with physical discomfort, those with whiplash may experience behavioral abnormalities, such as irritability and fatigue, as well. They may also have trouble sleeping, concentrating and remembering things.

Diagnosing and treating whiplash is a costly and time-consuming process. Medical bills can add up quickly and unless you have the help of an attorney on your side, you may be expected to pay those bills. The attorneys of Lewis & Tompkins don’t think that’s fair.

If your injuries are caused by a Washington, D.C., car crash, you shouldn’t have to pay for something that wasn’t your fault. Contact our office today and schedule a consultation to find out how we can help.
